IRS Postpones Processing Return Date

by | Jan 27, 2014 | Articles

As you may know, the government postponed the date by which it will process tax returns to January 31st.  Originally the IRS stated it would start processing returns on January 21st!  However, the 16 day shutdown is blamed for this change.  Interesting enough, the vast majority of early filers receive refunds, so this delay helps the Treasury delay the date the US debt ceiling maximum will be reached.  Somehow, I doubt this delay, which conveniently helps the administration is an accident!  Whether you think it is an outrage or good maneuvering is related to your politics.  What cannot be denied is that the government has a different standard in applying these rules to itself vs. taxpayers!
