Mindfulness, Like Exercise, Improves Well-Being

Articles

Regularly we address financial matters and current economic events; it is certainly what you see in the media daily, hourly, perhaps even by the minute. Our connections with you help to fulfill our intention of clarity, understanding and wisdom when there is so much distorted and confusing information to digest. Given our intention, it was a breath of fresh air to see today’s (January 31st) Globe article entitled “Brain Gain”:

http://www.boston.com/lifestyle/health/articles/2011/01/31/mindfulness_therapy_puts_the_focus_on_improving_the_quality_of_body_and_spirit/?s_campaign=8315

The article highlights the benefits and science of mindfulness practice. We couldn’t agree more. From our view, money is only one of many aspects of wealth; relationships, career, legacy, leisure and health are a few others. While there are many strategies, tools, technique to address issues related to money, relationships, work and so on individually, mindfulness is the only practice that enhances all aspects of your wealth, leading to sustained well-being.

If you read the article found on the link above, you will learn about paying attention and the healthy benefits of being able to stay in the present moment with all activity from your thoughts, feelings, sensations, senses … everything.  You will learn about the studies at Harvard medical school providing scientific evidence both with biology (mapping changes in the brain)and participant experience (people are happier). You will read three simple practices to get a glimpse of how mindfulness can be cultivated: mindful-eating, mindful walking and breath awareness meditation.

If there is any subject in our present situation that can use mindfulness, it is money. There are always outside actions to take to complete business, “fix” what has gone “wrong” or manage the material intricacies of life. But, there is nothing more potent and life changing that paying attention to the inside – where your innate intelligence has an opportunity to blossom.  Our suggestion is to review the three practices offered in this article and try one for a few weeks. See what happens.  Notice what changes you experience in your thoughts, feelings and sensations. Do you worry about the stock market and your portfolio? Does the winter weather seem insignificant? Do you laugh when your teenagers is showing attitude?  Our bet is your will experience something different, just like everyone who has started this path.
