Natural Disasters Creates Higher Home Values

Articles

An article in the Wall Street Journal on October 28, 2013 stated how Super Storm Sandy resulted in higher home prices along the New York City waterfront.  The homes now being built are 14 feet or so above the street level to survive storm surges.  The design lets the water out once the surge passes by and utilities are being installed in the attic rather than the basement.  These are all changes that are a direct result of the storm devastation and an improvement over the previous home construction techniques.

So, we now have better homes, safer environment and of course, they are selling for more money!  Do we really need such a disaster to do what is right?  Well, if we look at Congress, the answer is YES!
